Background

Paddington Bear is a fictional character created in 1956 by English writer Michael Bond. The book, ‘A Bear Called Paddington’, was first published in 1958 and was followed by a television series, more books, a musical and a website.

The Challenge

The official Paddington Bear website was developed in 1998 entirely in Flash, it was designed to visually stand out from unofficial Paddington Bear websites - but proved too costly to update and difficult for users to navigate.

Paddington and Company Limited wanted to combat these issues by developing a completely new website that would increase interactivity and build better relationships with users. It needed to be easy to update and flexible enough to evolve with the business needs.

Our Solution

An interactive site that adheres to approved standards in usability and accessibility was developed using Builder, Red Snapper’s Content Management System (CMS). This made the site easier to update, allowing authorised staff to contribute and edit the site whenever necessary.

The new site is now at the heart of Paddington and Company’s communication plan, providing a focal point for all interested parties and target audiences. Activities such as ‘Marmalade Mayhem’ encourage interactivity and intuitive navigation make the site easier to use, giving Paddington Bear enthusiasts a better user experience.
